About Vyper
Here at Vyper Industrial, every member of our team is dedicated to excelling mentally, physically, and emotionally. We believe in quality, integrity, and relentless perseverance. We seek top talent, those who are driven to win and be their best. If you're ready to embrace your potential and join a passionate team, welcome home.
Dayne and Dylan Rusch started Vyper in 2020 from Dayne's 400 sq. ft. apartment, having grown up assisting their father in the garage, Chris Rusch, who was a legend in the metal shaping industry. They witnessed firsthand the challenges posed by poorly made products and the decline of American manufacturing. Determined to have a better future, they founded Vyper Industrial with a mission to produce high-quality, American-made garage products and to create thousands of jobs. With a focus on innovation and growth, our team is committed to achieving market leadership.
The Role
We're hiring a Lead UI/UX Designer to design everything a customer sees on vyperindustrial.com: product pages, collection pages, landing pages, A/B test variants, and the launch pages behind every drop we do. This role will report directly to the Sr eCommerce Manager on our team.
Our products are overbuilt on purpose. The site should feel the same way. Heavy, confident, and precise, with nothing on the page that isn't earning its place. You'll be the person protecting that standard while also designing for conversion, because a page that looks great and doesn't sell is a failed page here.
This is a high-velocity design role. We run a continuous testing program and a launch calendar that doesn't move, so you'll be shipping multiple designs a week, not polishing one concept for a month. You'll take a written brief or a Loom from our ecommerce lead, design it in Figma, and hand it to development in a state where they can build it without coming back with twenty questions.
We want someone who works fast, catches their own mistakes, and has opinions about the work. Not someone who needs every decision made for them before they can start.
Responsibilities
Design & Conversion
- Design product pages, collection pages, the homepage, cart, and campaign landing pages for vyperindustrial.com
- Design A/B test variants from written CRO hypotheses, and design them tightly enough that the test is actually measuring the idea and not a pile of unrelated changes
- Design launch and sale pages for every limited edition drop, licensed collection, and promotional campaign on the calendar
- Design mobile-first. Most of our customers meet us on a phone, so the phone layout is the real design and desktop is the adaptation
- Design the comparison and education layer: spec comparison tables, "which one is right for me" tooling, bundle and configurator interfaces, and content that answers the customer's question before they have to ask it
- Design conversion surfaces with intent: buy boxes, variant and bundle selectors, badge and trust elements, cart and upsell modules, sticky bars, and offer presentation
- Bring ideas to the roadmap. You should be flagging pages that are underperforming visually and proposing what to test, not only executing what you're handed
- Deliver development-ready Figma files: organized layers, named components, responsive frames at real breakpoints, defined spacing and type scale, and every state specified (hover, active, empty, error, loading, sold out)
- Specify what needs to be dynamic and editable in the theme so developers build reusable sections instead of one-off hardcoded blocks
- Annotate behavior, not just appearance. What animates, what collapses on mobile, what happens on tap, what the fallback is when an image or a field is missing
- Work from written briefs and Loom walkthroughs. Ask sharp clarifying questions early, then go execute. We don't have the bandwidth to re-explain a brief three times
- QA the build. Once development ships to staging, you review it against the design and flag the differences before it goes live
- Build and maintain a design system: components, type scale, color, spacing, and button and form patterns, so the site stays consistent as it grows and every new page doesn't start from zero, knows how to work well with auto-layouts, padding, and other basic figma elements that make a piece of design pixel perfect
- Partner with the creative and brand team so what ships on site matches the campaign, the ads, and the packaging
Brand & Craft
- Hold the visual standard across the entire site. Consistent type, spacing, imagery treatment, and hierarchy on every page, including the ones nobody is watching
- Art direct product and lifestyle imagery for site use, including cropping, sequencing, and the gallery experience on PDPs
- Design within brand guidelines while pushing them forward. We want a designer with taste, not a template filler
- Catch the small things: a mismatched radius, a broken grid, a 2px misalignment, a mobile line break that ruins a headline. Attention to detail is the job, not a bonus
Qualifications
- 4+ years designing for ecommerce, ideally for a DTC brand doing 8 figures or more in revenue. Come ready to walk us through pages you designed and what happened to them after they launched
- Expert in Figma. Components, variants, auto layout, responsive frames, and a file structure someone else can actually open and use. This is a hard requirement.
- Demonstrable design handoff experience. You've worked with developers before and can show us a file they built from without needing a call every day
- Real conversion sense. You understand hierarchy, scannability, friction, and why a page converts, and you can defend a design decision with a reason beyond personal preference
- Mobile-first mindset. You design and review on the phone first
- Speed with accuracy. You can turn a brief into a reviewable design in days, not weeks, and your first version is close enough that we're refining it rather than restarting it
- Obsessive attention to detail. Consistent spacing, clean type, pixel-accurate alignment. If our developer has to guess at a measurement, the file wasn't finished
- Working knowledge of what's buildable in Shopify. You should know the difference between a design that's a two-hour section build and one that's a two-week custom project, and choose deliberately
- Comfortable with ambiguity. You take a brief, make reasonable assumptions, note them, and keep moving instead of stalling until every question is answered
- Proactive communication. You give status updates, flag when something won't make a date, and raise problems early
Added Value
- Experience designing A/B test variants and reading the results afterward
- Familiarity with Intelligems
- Very basic HTML and CSS literacy. You don't need to write production code, but understanding how your design becomes a build makes everything faster
- Experience designing for high AOV or considered-purchase categories where customers research before they buy
- Motion and interaction design, or experience with email and paid social creative
- Experience in automotive, tools, industrial, or other enthusiast categories
