Job summary

Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation in Kalispell is seeking an experienced forest management professional to lead complex timber sales from trust lands. You will plan, coordinate, and implement projects while ensuring MEPA compliance and high revenue returns.

The role requires 3–4 years of relevant field experience, strong GIS understanding, and the ability to manage contracts, boundaries, and access.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Forest Management or related resource management field is required.
• 3–4 years of progressively responsible professional forest management experience preferred.
• Ability to pass an arduous pack test and work in challenging field conditions.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and evaluate activities on state endowment trust lands and other lands to maximize net revenue.
• Lead MEPA projects, document assessments and public comments.
• Prepare sale packages and various technical reports for review by Land Office and Forest Management Bureau.
• Coordinate timber sale contracts, boundaries, and access easements.
• Design and supervise timber cruise and marking activities.
• Maintain compliance with silvicultural prescriptions and forest improvement plans.
• Respond to inquiries and provide technical assistance to stakeholders.
