Job summary

The Idaho Department of Lands in Sandpoint, Idaho, is seeking a full-time Lands Resource Supervisor – Forest Management – Good Neighbor Authority. This supervisory role leads staff in timber management and related programs while ensuring compliance with state and federal requirements.

Responsibilities include planning timber sales, supervising fieldwork, budgeting, and coordinating with landowners and partner agencies to sustain Idaho's forest resources and public trust lands.

Qualifications

  • Experience preparing and administering contracts, including evaluation and field inspection.
  • Ability to interpret public land survey descriptions, aerial imagery, and maps.
  • Proficiency with GIS concepts and data modeling.
  • Experience managing projects, reporting, and making recommendations.
  • Strong oral communication and ability to present to management and public groups.
  • Financial analyses to assess project cost/benefit and budgeting basics.
  • Ability to interpret state and federal laws related to natural resource management.
  • Experience writing technical reports.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise staff, set priorities, evaluate performance, and develop personnel.
  • Plan, design, and prepare timber sale and forest improvement projects with maps and estimates.
  • Administer timber sale projects ensuring compliance and contract fairness.
  • Conduct fieldwork: timber cruising, road assessments, planting, thinning, and maintenance.
  • Provide technical guidance to staff, landowners, contractors, and partner agencies.
  • Coordinate program planning across timber, range, mineral, and public trust areas.
  • Oversee budgeting and financial accuracy for operations and projects.
  • Facilitate communication among staff, agencies, stakeholders, and the public.
  • Represent the program with stakeholders and assist with access to project areas.
