Job summary

Selective Insurance in New Jersey is seeking an Executive Trial Attorney for its Hamilton, Roseland or Marlton offices. This role defends insureds in complex litigation, advises claims teams, and coordinates with outside counsel to manage high-exposure matters.

The attorney will handle a broad civil defense caseload across general liability, automobile liability, and construction defect matters, with travel up to 20% for depositions and court appearances.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor from ABA accredited law school.
• Bar admission in New Jersey required.
• At least 15 years legal experience in the jurisdiction.
• Trial of at least 15 matters to conclusion preferred.
• Management experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and tries complex, high exposure cases to conclusion before judges, juries and other triers of fact, possibly in multiple jurisdictions.
• Dictates/prepares pleadings, motions, briefs, letters, memoranda, reports, articles, etc.
• Communicates with clients, claims personnel, opposing counsel, courts and others efficiently using available technology.
• Researches issues using Westlaw and other sources; cites authorities and updates memoranda.
• Oversees support to claims, underwriting and other departments with legal opinions and updates.
