Job summary

The City of Detroit General Services Department seeks a Senior Tree Artisan to lead pruning, planting, and general care of shade and ornamental trees and shrubs across streets and municipal properties. Supervises one or more crew members as needed.

The role involves performing highly responsible work, inspecting trees for defects, and responding to storm emergencies. CDL-B within six months and adherence to safety standards are required.

Qualifications

• High School graduation or GED required.
• Two (2) years of experience in caring for and cultivating trees and shrubs including pruning and planting.

Responsibilities

• Lead a crew of one or more workers.
• Perform the most difficult and responsible work.
• Plant and transplant trees and move large trees.
• Prune trees to shape and remove dead branches.
• Remove broken branches and prune to clear utility lines.
• Respond to storm call emergencies.
• Fertilize, water, and care for trees and shrubs.
• Inspect trees for defects and pests; identify problems and propose solutions.
• Follow departmental safety procedures.
