Job summary

The City of Birmingham is seeking an Urban Arborist to supervise crews engaged in tree care operations, including planting, trimming, insect and disease control, and debris removal. You will ensure safety for the crew, the public, and property, and meet deadlines on work orders.

This role requires operating a bucket truck, chainsaw work, and a Class A CDL, plus ISA Arborist Certification within one year. You will plan tasks, oversee safety compliance, and coordinate with supervisors to

Qualifications

• Must have experience using chainsaws to trim/remove trees.
• Experience operating an aerial lift (bucket truck) to cut/trim trees.
• Class A Commercial Driver's License is required.
• Must obtain an ISA Arborist Certification within one year of employment.
• Three+ years of full-time arboricultural work experience may qualify for certification testing.
• Associates/Bachelor’s degrees in arboriculture, horticulture, landscape architecture or forestry with relevant work experience are acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Contributes to the community by planting trees and educating schools about tree planting importance.
• Directs a crew in removal of trees and limbs while ensuring safety regulations are followed.
• Maintains equipment by inspecting saws, ropes, climbing gear, and trucks; performs routine maintenance.
