Job summary

The responsibility of the Lead Trauma Registrar is to ensure the Trauma Registry contains accurate, detailed, reliable, and readily accessible information needed to support the operations, quality initiatives, and research of the Beverly Hospital Trauma Department. The Lead Trauma Registrar is responsible for the integrity of data: collection, analysis, entry, completion, and validation of all patients meeting inclusion criteria into the hospital trauma registry on a daily basis. Responsibilities include direct supervision of the Trauma Registry staff, case identification, complete registry record abstraction and validation of data in the Trauma Registry. Data submission to both state registry and national TQIP Trauma Registries on a timely basis and maintaining abstraction on a concurrent basis. Assist TPM and PI with quality initiatives and prepare for ACS reverification with yearly preparation and tri-annual visits.

Job Description
Job Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with TPM on State and National Trauma Registry Data Submissions
  • Manage the daily activities of the Trauma Registrars, including but not limited to:

Daily data combing from Epic into Trauma Summary Sheet

Uploading cases into TraumaOne program with Epic Datalink

  • Monitor for Registry compliance for mandated submission data points
  • Coordinate PI reports on TraumaOne Program
  • Manage the continued education for Registrar staff
  • Co-manage Trauma Registrar timecards with TPM
  • Work with the Trauma Program Manager to provide accurate and up to date monthly data for all Trauma-related reporting.
  • Facilitates development of a streamlined flow of data into the registry from concurrent sources.
  • Informs the Trauma Program Manager and the Trauma Medical Director of any concerns regarding inaccurate data or data sources. 10. 10. Coordinate with the medical record staff to maximize efficiency in abstracting the required data elements from the medical record and other available sources.
  • Consistently produces completed abstractions as well as data entry on a monthly basis no later than two months of patient discharge. 12. Collaborates in a professional manner with all members of the healthcare team to promote the goals and objectives of the Trauma Program.
  • Report critical gaps in the presence of medical record documentation to the Trauma Program Manager.
  • Create PI reports on all trauma patients and report to various departments/agencies as needed
  • Complete 4 hours of registry specific continuing education per year.
Job Requirements/Minimum Qualifications
  • General knowledge of medical record‑keeping principles and practices.
  • General knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology sufficient to evaluate, abstract, and code specific diagnosis and treatment information from patient'’ medical chart.
Education:

Two (2) years college or equivalent with additional training in medical terminology and anatomy.

Certifications:

Participate in and pass CAISS certification every five years, or within 3 years of hire

  • Other: Special Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to exercise good judgement. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to train new and existing staff members.
  • Accountability: Responsible for accurate selection of diagnosis and procedures and appropriate codes; determination of correct principal diagnosis and procedure, correct ICD-9 assignment. Responsible for auditing inpatient and outpatient coding and documentation compliance.
Pay Range

$37.08 - $98.23

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
