Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) seeks a Transportation Technician III to serve as lead inspector on transportation construction projects. Field responsibilities include supervising inspection staff, verifying plans and specifications, and maintaining project documentation.

The candidate should hold an Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology or Survey Technology with 5 years of technician experience, possess a valid driver’s license, and be able to read highway plans and DOT

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related curriculum with five years of technician experience.
• Active driver’s license.
• Experience interpreting highway construction plans.
• Ability to apply engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
• Understanding of DOT Standards and Roadway Drawings.
• NCDOT certifications: Concrete Field Technician, QMS Roadway Technician, Conventional Density Testing preferred.
• Experience with local clients preferred.

Responsibilities

• Inspect contractor operations on transportation projects to verify plans and specifications.
• Supervise and maintain inspection staff throughout construction.
• Measure and track quantities of pay items.
• Gather and maintain record documents including material certifications, testing reports, and inspector’s daily diaries.
• Interact with the public, government agencies, contractors, subcontractors, and other parties to respond to inquiries and resolve field issues.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
