Job summary

Southwest Power Pool is seeking a Lead Training Developer to advance learning quality and strategic impact across the organization. You will lead a cross-functional team including eLearning Developers, Instructional Designers, and Training Specialists to deliver scalable solutions aligned with business outcomes.

You will drive standards, improve processes, and collaborate with SMEs, technical teams, and training teams to deliver high-impact, data-informed training.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Communications, Business Administration, or other relevant field.
  • 8 years of Instructional Design, eLearning Development, and Training Facilitation.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver enterprise learning solutions to improve employee capability and performance.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the learning team.
  • Lead complex learning initiatives from analysis through implementation.
  • Establish and maintain standards for design, accessibility, branding, and course development.
  • Design and develop learning solutions using adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies.
  • Partner with stakeholders to reflect business processes, regulatory requirements, and priorities.
  • Develop efficient workflows for storyboarding, scripting, development, review, testing, and implementation.
  • Evaluate learning effectiveness using feedback and metrics to improve outcomes.
  • Research new instructional design methods and AI-enabled tools.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for enterprise learning development.
  • Champion continuous improvement to enhance processes and learner experience.

The salary range(s) represents our good faith estimate for the role at this time. Lead Training Developer Salary range: $97,580 – $126,795

Overview

The Lead Training Developer is responsible for advancing the quality, consistency, and strategic impact of learning across the organization. This role leads projects and efforts that support a cross-functional team of eLearning Developers, Instructional Designers, and Training Specialists, ensuring the creation of effective, engaging, and scalable learning solutions aligned with organizational goals and business outcomes. The lead drives standards, improves processes, and fosters collaboration between SMEs, technical teams, and training teams to deliver high‑impact, data‑informed training.

Core Responsibilities
  • Deliver enterprise learning solutions that improve employee capability, technical proficiency, and organizational performance.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to eLearning Developers, Instructional Designers, and Training Specialists, promoting consistent instructional design practices and high-quality deliverables.
  • Lead complex learning initiatives from analysis through implementation, coordinating project activities to ensure quality, timeliness, and alignment with business objectives.
  • Establish and maintain standards for instructional design, accessibility, branding, quality assurance, and course development to create scalable and consistent learning experiences.
  • Design and develop learning solutions using adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies through evidence-based practices.
  • Partner with business leaders, subject matter experts, HR, Compliance, and operational stakeholders to ensure learning solutions accurately reflect business processes, regulatory requirements, and organizational priorities.
  • Develop efficient workflows for storyboarding, scripting, development, review, testing, and implementation that improve collaboration and reduce development cycle time.
  • Evaluate learning effectiveness using learner feedback, assessments, business metrics, and performance data to continuously improve learning outcomes. Optimize the use of learning technologies, authoring tools, multimedia applications, and learning management system capabilities to improve learner engagement and operational efficiency.
  • Research emerging instructional design methodologies, learning technologies, artificial intelligence, and digital learning trends to recommend innovative solutions that advance enterprise learning capabilities.
  • Serve as the technical subject matter expert for enterprise learning development, providing consultation, troubleshooting, and best practice recommendations across learning initiatives.
  • Champion continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance learning processes, increase development efficiency, and improve the learner experience.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree Human Resources, Communication, Business Administration, or other relevant field.
  • 8 years Instructional Design, eLearning Development, Training Facilitation
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional certifications such as CPTD, ATD Instructional Design Certificate, Kirkpatrick, Prosci, PMP, Agile, or similar.
  • Experience developing learning solutions for technical, compliance, engineering, utility, or other highly regulated industries.
  • Experience using data, learning analytics, and business performance metrics to evaluate learning effectiveness.
  • Experience creating simulations, scenario-based learning, video production, xAPI, or other advanced digital learning technologies.
  • Experience incorporating accessibility standards into digital learning solutions.
  • Experience leveraging AI-enabled learning development tools to improve content quality and development efficiency.
Other Requirements
  • Demonstrated experience applying instructional design methodologies (e.g., ADDIE, SAM, Agile, or similar) and adult learning principles to create effective learning experiences.
  • Experience developing digital learning using enterprise authoring and multimedia tools such as Articulate 360, Adobe Captivate, Camtasia, Vyond, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar technologies.
  • Experience administering or developing content within a Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex learning projects, coordinating cross-functional stakeholders, and successfully delivering multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Experience establishing development standards, quality assurance practices, or governance processes for learning content.
  • Strong consultation, facilitation, written communication, and relationship-building skills with the ability to influence without direct authority.
