Job summary

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) seeks a Traffic Engineering Data Specialist to collect and analyze traffic data, support planning and design, and advise on safety-focused recommendations. The role collaborates with district staff, consultants, and project teams to ensure data accuracy and compliance with DOTD standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus 3 years sub-professional engineering experience.
• Alternative: 18 semester hours in engineering-related fields as listed in qualifications.
• No Civil Service test score required to be considered.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate traffic data collection activities with District personnel and stakeholders.
• Lead traffic data collection and analysis in accordance with DOTD procedures.
• Conduct and evaluate traffic studies including peak-hour turning movements, 24-hour volume counts, speed studies, intersection diagrams, and collision diagrams.
• Compile, analyze, and present traffic data in clear, usable formats with recommendations for corrective actions.
• Use CADD to develop traffic control plans, TSIs, and other traffic engineering designs.
• Assist with development and revision of traffic-related specifications, procedures, and standards.
• Coordinate and assist with reviewing traffic studies, plans, and specifications, including speed studies and pedestrian crosswalk studies.
• Develop and coordinate traffic engineering data collection scopes for Section 27 projects.
• Participate in project and public meetings to provide traffic engineering support.
• Coordinate and assist with updating Department traffic engineering policies and procedures.
