At the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), we plan, build, maintain, and protect the transportation systems that connect communities, support commerce, and keep Louisiana moving. This position is responsible for performing traffic engineering data collection studies and reviewing traffic engineering studies and reports to support transportation planning, design, and operations. The incumbent applies comprehensive knowledge of Department procedures, policies, standards, specifications, Standard Specifications, Engineering Directives and Standards Manual (EDSM), Highway Capacity Manual, DOTD Traffic Engineering Manual, and DOTD Traffic Signal Design Manual to ensure traffic data collection and analysis activities are accurate, consistent, and compliant with established requirements. The position works closely with consultants, plan development engineers, planners, project managers, and District Traffic Operations Engineers regarding traffic data collection and speed studies. This position plays an important role in supporting the Department’s traffic engineering programs by providing reliable data, technical analysis, and professional recommendations that contribute to safe and efficient transportation systems. Possession of a high school diploma or GED plus three years of sub-professional engineering experience; OR
Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance plus three years of sub-professional engineering experience; OR
Eighteen semester hours in one of the following specialized fields: architecture, cartography, construction management, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, engineering technology, industrial technology, landscape architecture, math, or physics.
No Civil Service test score is required in order to be considered for this vacancy.

Job Duties:
Appointment Type: This position may be filled as either a probational appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency-wide permanent status employees); or by detail to special duty.
Compensation: This position receives a premium pay of $2.00/hour for hours actually worked.
Additional compensation may be considered impart with extraordinary qualifications in accordance with State Civil Service Rules and DOTD policy.
