Position Summary: Provide leadership and supervision of a Child Care Program, including Pre-School and Kindergarten.
Job Description
Develop and teach a high-quality, well-rounded, age-appropriate curriculum; provide care, guidance, and developmental experiences in accordance with YMCA guidelines and State Licensing requirements.
Qualifications
- R.I. Certificate in Early Childhood Education; or Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development from an accredited or approved institution, with a minimum of three months supervised teaching experience; or Bachelor’s Degree meeting Rhode Island certification standards.
- Certifications/Training: Pediatric CPR/First Aid, Child Abuse Prevention within first two months of employment.
- Participation in ongoing education in early childhood development; minimum of 20 hours of training per year.
Essential Functions
- Develop and teach curriculum in accordance with YMCA and state standards.
- Supervise and evaluate staff; review effectiveness and performance.
- Work with Child Care Director on program implementation and policies.
- Make referrals for suspected child abuse or special education needs.
- Tailor programs to individual children's needs, considering their interests, handicaps, talents, diversity, and learning pace.
- Stay informed about trends in child care and adapt accordingly.
- Treat children with dignity and respect; promote group awareness and positive behavior management.
- Conduct parent/teacher conferences and develop parental involvement plans.
- Maintain equipment, supplies, and snack inventory; ensure proper classroom environment and records.
- Follow proper procedures for child release and ensure safety protocols.
- Maintain good public relations and represent YMCA positively.
- Collaborate with staff, volunteers, and members.
- Ensure health and safety, perform first aid when needed, and report incidents.
- Attend staff meetings and participate in professional development.
- Supervise 1-4 employees in the Child Care Department, adhering to YMCA and licensing guidelines.
