Description

The Teacher is responsible for the care and education of a group of children as part of a teaching team. The Teacher plans and implements the Education Component objectives of the Performance Standards.

The Teacher promotes the mission of ABCD Head Start & Children’s Services and communicates this mission to staff, families, and the community.

This position must comply with all applicable laws, regulations, standards, and policies, including those of the federal Administration for Children and Families (ACF), the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC), the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), Massachusetts disability law (Chapter 766), Boston Family Engagement Network (BFEN), and ABCD, Inc. policies.

All ABCD Head Start/Early Head Start personnel working with children are legally mandated to report suspected child abuse and neglect to the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families (DCF).

Key Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Provide infants and toddlers with a nurturing, safe, and healthy environment with experiences that promote social, intellectual, physical, and emotional development.
  • Balance individual and small group activities to enhance development and learning.
  • Use open-ended exploration, teacher-directed, structured, and sensory activities to foster curiosity and reasoning.
  • Provide care such as diapering, toileting, feeding, dressing, and hygiene to promote independence.
  • Supervise classroom volunteers to facilitate developmentally appropriate activities.
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
  • Develop opportunities for children to learn about health, safety, nutrition, dental health, and families.
  • Engage parents in the educational process to enhance their understanding of child development.
  • Possess computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office and database systems.
  • Maintain professionalism, good interpersonal skills, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Bilingual ability is preferred where appropriate.
Observation, Planning, and Documentation
  • Participate in screening, assessment, and development of individualized goals for children.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans and activities.
  • Maintain documentation such as care sheets, observations, and communication records.
  • Conduct home visits and parent-teacher conferences.
Professionalism
  • Promote the program’s mission and communicate effectively with staff, families, and the community.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
Additional Duties
  • Attend meetings, maintain compliance with EEC requirements, and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Report to the Program Director.
Physical Demands & Conditions
  • Engage in physical activities such as lifting children and equipment, supervising children, and responding to emergencies.
  • Assist children with disabilities, including physically challenged children.
Education & Experience

Teacher 1 ($23.97/hr): High school diploma or equivalent, active Child Development Associate Credential with Infant and Toddler endorsement or EEC Infant/Toddler Lead Teacher certification, bilingual preferred.

Teacher 2 ($28.62/hr): Associate’s degree in early childhood development, EEC Infant Toddler Teacher certification preferred, bilingual preferred.

Teacher 3 ($35.20/hr): Bachelor’s degree in early childhood development, EEC Infant Toddler Teacher certification preferred, bilingual preferred.

Teacher 4 ($39.61/hr): Master’s degree in early childhood development, EEC Infant Toddler Teacher certification preferred, bilingual preferred.
