Job summary

Belcan in Grand Rapids, MI is seeking a Lead Test Engineering Technician to support the build, setup, testing, troubleshooting, repair and validation of electromechanical products and test systems in an engineering laboratory.

The ideal candidate has 5–9 years of hands-on engineering/test technician experience, strong electrical troubleshooting, soldering skills, and experience reading schematics and engineering drawings; onsite 100% in Grand Rapids.

Responsibilities

• Build, modify, wire, solder, troubleshoot, and repair test systems and hardware.
• Set up and execute electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and environmental tests.
• Work with circuit boards, actuators, motor controllers, test panels, and related equipment.
• Use laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, DMMs, power supplies, and other lab gear.
• Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems and identify root causes.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
• Execute approved test plans and procedures in compliance with DO-160 and MIL-STD-810.
• Maintain test records, reports, documentation, and laboratory data.
• Coordinate with external contractors supporting laboratory and equipment projects.
• Train and provide technical direction to other technicians and support personnel.

Location: Grand Rapids, MI - 100% onsite

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM

Contract: ASAP-March 13, 2027, with potential extension/C2H

Pay: $24-$28/hr. on W2 (all inclusive)

Experience: 5+ years preferred

ITAR: Must be a U.S. Person; U.S. citizenship preferred

Position Overview

We are looking for a Lead Test Engineering Technician to support the build, setup, testing, troubleshooting, repair, and validation of electromechanical products and test systems in an engineering laboratory environment.

This role is ideal for someone with strong hands-on electrical and mechanical troubleshooting experience who has worked with circuit boards, actuators, motor controllers, test equipment, and engineering test setups.

Key Responsibilities

• Build, modify, wire, solder, troubleshoot, and repair test systems and hardware.
• Set up and execute electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and environmental tests.
• Work with circuit boards, actuators, motor controllers, test panels, and related equipment.
• Use laboratory equipment such as:
• Digital multimeters (DMMs)
• Power supplies
• Pressure/flow measurement equipment
• Load and torque transducers
• Encoders
• Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems and identify root causes.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
• Execute approved test plans and procedures, including applicable DO-160 and MIL-STD-810 standards.
• Maintain test equipment, laboratory infrastructure, tooling, and TPM activities.
• Train and provide technical direction to other technicians and support personnel.
• Maintain accurate test records, reports, documentation, and laboratory data.
• Coordinate with external contractors supporting laboratory and equipment projects.
• Follow all safety and compliance requirements.

Ideal Candidate

The strongest candidate will have:

• 5-9 years of hands-on engineering/test technician experience
• Strong electrical troubleshooting skills
• Mechanical and preferably hydraulic/electromechanical experience
• Soldering and electronics repair
• Experience setting up and executing engineering tests
• Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, DMMs, power supplies, and other lab equipment
• Ability to troubleshoot equipment rather than perform repetitive production work
• Experience reading schematics and engineering drawings
• Strong documentation and communication skills
• Microsoft Office experience, particularly Excel and Word
• Engineering lab, NPD, product development, or qualification-testing experience is highly desirable
