Job summary

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy is seeking a Lead Wind Farm Service Technician for our Minonk, IL wind farm. The role involves advanced troubleshooting, maintenance, and commissioning across electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and control systems, with leadership over daily field operations.

You will mentor junior technicians, provide remote and onsite support, and ensure safety and quality standards while maintaining operational readiness and service quality.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience as a Wind Technician or in a comparable technical service role.
• Strong experience troubleshooting wind turbine electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and control systems.
• Knowledge of SCADA systems and wind turbine operations.
• Demonstrated ability to lead field activities and coordinate service operations.

As a Lead Wind Farm Service Technician at Minonk Wind Farm in Minonk, IL, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of customer wind turbine equipment. In this senior-level position, you will perform advanced troubleshooting, maintenance, and commissioning activities on electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and control systems while serving as a technical resource for the service team. You will lead daily field operations, coordinate service activities, and provide guidance and mentorship to junior technicians to ensure high-quality service delivery.

Working independently and collaboratively, you will utilize specialized diagnostic tools and SCADA systems to analyze turbine performance, resolve complex technical issues, and support customers both onsite and remotely. Safety, operational excellence, and continuous improvement are central to this role, requiring a strong commitment to environmental, health, and safety standards. The ideal candidate brings substantial wind industry experience, strong technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and a passion for supporting renewable energy generation.

How You’ll Make an Impact

• Diagnose and resolve complex electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and control system faults on wind turbines.
• Perform scheduled and unscheduled preventive maintenance, component replacements, system integration, and commissioning activities.
• Conduct technical analysis and testing utilizing specialized diagnostic tools and SCADA systems.
• Provide 2nd and 3rd level technical support to customers both remotely and onsite to resolve operational issues.
• Lead and coordinate daily service operations, delegating tasks and reviewing work completed by technicians.
• Complete detailed service reports, maintenance records, and technical documentation in accordance with company procedures.
• Support business growth by identifying service opportunities and generating leads for predefined service offerings.
• Ensure compliance with established service processes, quality standards, and project schedules.
• Train and mentor junior technicians on technical procedures, equipment usage, and safety requirements.
• Enforce Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) regulations and promote a strong safety culture across all work activities.
• Manage onsite inventory of tools, spare parts, and equipment to ensure operational readiness.
• Work in varying weather conditions, at heights, in confined spaces, and during emergency response situations as required.
• Flexibility to work outside planned hours, including nights, weekends, and on-call support when needed.

What You Bring

• Minimum 2 years of experience as a Wind Technician or in a comparable technical service role.
• Vocational, technical, or associate degree in an electromechanical, electrical, mechanical, or related field preferred.
• Strong experience troubleshooting wind turbine electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and control systems.
• Knowledge of SCADA systems and wind turbine operations.
• Demonstrated ability to lead field activities and coordinate service operations.
• Strong organizational, communication, and technical documentation skills.
• Commitment to quality, safety, and operational excellence.
• Global Wind Organisation (GWO) Basic Safety Training certification preferred.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to climb wind turbines up to 300 feet and work safely at heights.
• Physically and mentally able to work suspended from heights and in confined spaces.
• Must meet body weight restrictions of 265 lbs. or less as required by equipment safety regulations.
• Must pass a physical examination to safely perform the essential functions of the role.
• English language proficiency (B1-B2 level or equivalent).
• Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without the need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization.
