Job summary

Level is seeking an experienced Lead Technical Product Designer in Austin to drive the technical design vision across our product portfolio. You will mentor a team of junior designers, align with engineering and art leadership, and set standards for craft, performance, and maintainability.

You will own the tools and pipelines that scale design across multiple experiences, translating ambitious product goals into practical technical solutions and rapid iterations.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in technical design, systems design, or related engineering roles with at least 2 years in lead or senior mentorship.
• Shipped titles with complex technical design systems and a clear problem-solving approach.
• Experience leading, coaching, or formally managing junior designers or engineers.
• Track record of improving tools, workflows, or pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of junior technical designers, setting expectations and fostering craft.
• Own the technical design vision for core systems and mechanics across the product portfolio.
• Advocate for technical design workflows and establish best practices as tools/pipelines evolve.
• Partner with engineering and art leadership to define and optimize tools, systems, and pipelines used daily.
• Translate high-level goals into actionable technical solutions balancing creativity with performance.
• Drive rapid prototyping and iteration cycles.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to scope, prioritize, and deliver complex features.
• Contribute to documentation, onboarding, and workflow standards to move the team faster.
