Job summary

The Lead Teacher at YMCA Akron is responsible for all aspects of care, education and safety of children in the classroom, ensuring alignment with core values and center standards. This role requires leadership of staff and volunteers, implementation of weekly lesson plans, and close collaboration with state authorities.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma recognized by the state
• Official college transcripts preferred
• Must complete a medical examination within twelve months prior to start
• Complete FBI and BCI background checks
• Qualify under ODJFS rules as Lead teacher

Responsibilities

• Set the climate for children, staff and volunteers in the classrooms.
• Supervise classroom staff and volunteers and understand their value.
• Maintain a safe and clean environment in classroom and center.
• Write and implement weekly lesson plans aligned to curriculum and standards.
• Communicate curriculum, assessments, and screenings to state specialists.
• Guide children’s behavior and learning through active interaction with lesson plans.
• Maintain accurate records for licensing and funding agencies.
• Attend to toileting needs and assist with feeding as needed.
• Follow state and center emergency policies and procedures.
• Be responsible for the appearance and cleanliness of the learning environment.
