Job summary

BronxWorks is seeking a Lead Teacher at JACKSON Family Residence in Bronx, NY. The role supports early childhood education in a family shelter setting and requires collaboration with the director and staff to implement engaging activities for children aged 0–5.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's in education or ECE, has 4+ years in the field, and may be bilingual English/Spanish. OSHA, First Aid/CPR, and related certifications are expected, with a willingness to obtain if needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in education or early childhood education.
• Minimum four years of experience in early childhood education.
• Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
• First Aid, CPR, and RTE certification, or obtain within 3–6 months.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard business tech.

Responsibilities

• Follow all OSHA requirements.
• Assist Director of Children’s Services with program goals and activities.
• Assist in preparation of lesson plans in compliance with regulations.
• Create a nurturing and supportive environment for children.
• Implement early childhood educational, recreational, and social activities.
• Engage children in team building activities.
• Assist with dressing and toilet routines and maintain hygiene.
• Provide classroom management.
• Attend regular staff meetings.
• Attend training sessions and workshops on early childhood education.
• Meet monthly with program coordinator/director for supervision.
• Act as a liaison with parents.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Follow all OSHA requirements

• Create a nurturing and supportive environment for children.
• Implement various early childhood educational, recreational, and social activities that foster development and growth.
• Engage children in team building activities.
• Assist an individual child or group of children with dressing and toilet training, change diapers and ensure sanitary conditions.
• Provide classroom management.
• Attend regular staff meetings.
• Attend training sessions and workshops on early childhood education.
• Meet monthly with program coordinator and/or program director for supervision.
• Act as a liaison with parents.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree required, preferably in education or early childhood education.
• At minimum of four years of experience working within an early childhood education setting preferred.
• Bilingual skills in English/Spanish is a plus.
• First Aid, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Responding to Emergency (RTE) certification, or obtain within 3-6 months
• Engaging personality and detailed orientated skills are essential.
• Strong oral and written communication, time management and organizational skills are necessary.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other standard business technology is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Excellent time management and communication skills.
• Ability to work with infants and preschool children from ages of 0-5 years.
• Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods.
• Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
• Ability to stand, walk, or sit for long periods of time.
• Ability to climb five flights of stairs.
• Ability to bend and retrieve objects and/or documents.
• Ability to travel in the boroughs of New York City and its adjacent countries via public transportation.
• Ability to travel for minimum of 1 mile within a reasonable amount of time in all types of weather, including inclement weather.
