Leonardo DRS Naval Electronics in Groton, CT is seeking a Lead Systems Engineering Technician to provide onsite complex technical support for the TIH program, including maintenance, repairs, and testing. You may lead junior staff, act as the customer contact on technical issues, and ensure accurate documentation of all service activities.

The role requires U.S. citizenship and an active DOD security clearance or ability to obtain one.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent required.
• Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint).
• FOA CFOT certification preferred; acceptable field experience can substitute.

Responsibilities

• Provide onsite complex technical support for maintenance, repairs, modifications, equipment setup, and testing.
• Lead and mentor lower-level technicians when needed.
• Serve as customer contact on technical issues and coordinate with stakeholders.
• Troubleshoot equipment issues using drawings and documentation.

Job Summary

The Lead Systems Engineering Technician is responsible for providing onsite complex technical support for maintenance, repairs, modifications, equipment setup, and testing for our TIH program.

Job Responsibilities

• May provide work leadership and technical assistance to lower-level technicians
• Serve as customer contact on technical issues
• Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues by utilizing drawings and technical documentation
• Conduct repairs and/or modifications using a variety of hand tools and test equipment
• Demonstrate, setup, and adjustment of complex equipment for potential users or operators
• Complete appropriate written documentation and feedback for onsite service and installations
• Deliver technical solutions to customers with a high degree of professionalism
• Determine and recommend which products or services best fit customer needs
• Analyze test results related to the design and test objectives and adjust equipment to bring within specifications
• Record test procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations for changes in product or test methods
• May provide formal/informal training of customer personnel
• Demonstrate great customer service skills
• Work variable shifts and up to 12-hour shifts to perfom necessary testing
• Exhibit mature, independent judgment and communicate effectively
• Must be able to maintain and adhere to the customer's onsite scheduling requirements with no more than 5 unplanned absences during any rolling 12-month period

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Methodical documentation skills with the ability to assist in accurate, complete and timely technical service reports
• Proficient in the use of a laptop computer, mobile devices, MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint)
• FOA (The Fiber Optic Association, Inc.) CFOT - Certified Fiber Optic Technician preferred
  • Acceptable field experience installing and testing fiber optic networks will be considered in lieu of FOA certification. This experience includes:
    • Participation in multiple installation jobs, preferrably including premises and OSP installations
    • Experience preparing various cable types
    • Experience with fusion, splicing, and several termination types
    • Experience testing with visual inspection, VFL, OLTS, OTDR
    • Software skills with C+, C++, Java, and Visual Basic a plus
• Outstanding communication skills (written and oral)

U.S. Citizenship required. This position requires an active DOD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.

The salary range for this position is $35.00/hour - $50.00/hour). This range reflects the good faith estimate of pay the employer is willing to offer at the time of posting. Several factors can influence the pay scale, including but not limited to: Federal contract labor categories and contract wage rates, collective bargaining agreements, geographic location, business considerations, scope, and responsibilities of the position, local or other applicable market conditions, and internal equity. Other factors include the candidate’s qualifications such as prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education/training, and certifications. In addition to base pay, employees may be eligible for: annual performance-based bonuses, equity awards, and overtime pay (for non-exempt employees as applicable.
