Job summary

General Motors Defense is seeking a Lead System Engineer to lead a team of systems engineers, translating complex requirements into a cohesive, verified product definition for defense programs.

You will drive system-level integration across mechanical, electrical, and controls domains, oversee DFMEA and fault-tree analysis, and apply AI-enabled tools to improve requirements quality and traceability while ensuring safety, performance, and manufacturability.

Qualifications

• BSE/BS in engineering or equivalent
• 10+ years in systems engineering and product integration
• 5+ years in defense industry experience
• Strong communication and leadership across cross-functional teams

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of Systems Engineers in development and roll-down of system requirements
• Ensure subsystem requirements, interfaces, and verification plans align to mission objectives
• Drive system-level integration across engineering disciplines for a cohesive product
• Collaborate to ensure safety, performance, cost, timing, manufacturability and validation goals
• Oversee interface definition, traceability, and verification planning across systems
• Create System DFMEA and address failure modes in design
• Participate in Fault Tree Analysis and risk mitigation
• Collaborate on V&V planning across domains to validate requirements
• Lead issue resolution and integration through the full development cycle
• Work with subsystem teams to optimize total system performance
