Job description

About Recogni:

Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming our world, enabling cognitive functions once exclusive to humans. AI can perceive interactions across diverse environments, reason in logical steps, and solve complex problems with remarkable performance. Recogni specializes in high-performance, low-power AI inference systems. Our mission is to accelerate multimodal Generative AI inference at scale by delivering high-performance, economical, sustainable, and accurate AI-driven inference solutions. We are at the forefront of advancing AI inference research and product innovation, unlocking new possibilities for modern applications that will positively impact many industries.

As a well-funded, fast-paced startup, Recogni has headquarters in San Jose, CA, and Munich, Germany, along with a strong network of talented remote team members working remotely. We put people first and prioritize our employees' work-life balance, aiming for a healthier, happier life inside and outside work.

The opportunity:

We’re looking for a Lead System Test Engineer to own and drive the design, automation, and execution of comprehensive system-level testing for our high-performance AI computing platforms. In this role, you’ll:

  • Design, architect and implement system test plans that reflect real-world use cases, performance benchmarks, and production-readiness criteria.
  • Develop and extend a scalable test automation framework integrated with our SDK for test-case generation.
  • Implement test methodologies for validating complex interactions across compute nodes, networking, storage, and distributed software systems.
  • Verify system behavior across hardware revisions and software builds and analyze large volumes of test data to pinpoint failure modes.
  • Devise and maintain a modular test harness that supports simulation, emulation, and hardware-in-the-loop testing.
  • Collaborate closely with hardware, software, and AI systems teams to ensure alignment of test coverage with engineering milestones. Be hands-on engaged in setting up our test lab facility.

This role is hands-on, high-impact, and visible across the organization—ideal for engineers who want to make real systems work, at scale.

What you’ll bring:

  • 7+ years of experience in system-level testing or validation of computing platforms, embedded systems, or hardware/software co-designed products.
  • Hands-on deep familiarity with Python and Bash scripting. Experience with Linux-based environments, Docker, and CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions) to automate test flows.
  • Hands-on with test frameworks such as PyTest, Robot Framework, or custom harnesses; ability to extend or build from scratch.
  • Hands-on Python automation libraries development.
  • Experience with network and storage systems (e.g., Infiniband, Ethernet, NFS, S3, NAS/SAN) and associated performance benchmarks.
  • Solid background in using tools like JIRA, Testmo, or Qase for tracking test plans, results, and defects.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Where you will stand out: a) experience in leading small high-performance teams; b) deep and hands-on understanding of GenAI models (e.g., LLMs, stable diffusion, mixture-of-experts, text-to-video, etc.) and their accuracy metrics; c) experience with building and maintaining test labs and equipment, including the procurement of equipment.
