Job summary

AT&T National Security seeks a Lead System Engineer for a government services project in the Washington, DC metro area. The role focuses on design, deployment, operation, and maintenance of mission-critical systems across Linux and Windows environments hosted at the customer site.

You will collaborate with a matrixed team of voice, network, and systems engineers to deliver secure, scalable solutions. A strong mix of virtualization, scripting, and security hardening is required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5-10 years of working experience designing, configuring, implementing, and maintaining enterprise class system solutions to include:
• Experience with Linux and Windows administration, patching and upgrades.
• Strong TCP/IP networking knowledge and related protocols (SSH, SFTP, HTTPS, DNS, SNMP).
• Database administration on Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL.
• Knowledgeable about CIS/STIG security baselines in Windows and Linux.
• Experience creating system documentation, test plans and installation guides.
• Experience with scripting/automation to gather data and generate reports.
• Experience with disaster recovery and failover procedures.
• Strong communication and collaborative skills.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with a team of system engineers to deploy, configure, maintain and operate mission application systems hosted in both physical and virtual environments.
• Maintain, configure, and operate mission systems (RHEL, Rocky, Debian, Windows); engage with vendors to implement services.
• Manage system life-cycle phases including planning, design, evaluation, and migration.
• Install and configure software patches and upgrades and hardware components.
• Troubleshoot hardware and software errors, document problems and resolutions.
• Monitor system and application logs for performance and security anomalies.
• Create scripts and automation tools to support tasks and dashboards.
• Maintain backups and disaster recovery plans and perform failover procedures.
• Create and maintain technical documentation for admin procedures.
• Implement system security hardening and compliance with standards.
