Job summary

Caterpillar is seeking a System Engineer with Electronics & Functional Safety Emphasis in Mossville, IL and Dayton, OH. The role focuses on designing earthmoving and paving machine control systems, ensuring safety and reliability, and collaborating with global teams. A BS in electrical engineering and 5+ years of embedded experience are required.

Responsibilities include defining architectures, safety analyses, hardware selection, and leading engineering efforts within a V-model lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Create earthmoving and paving machine control system designs.
• Collaborate on system architectures, product design and verification.
• Decompose product systems and safety requirements into subsystem requirements.
• Assist with electronics hardware selection and design to meet system needs.
• Define machine control networks including layout, security and messaging.
• Define communication interfaces including electrical implementation and protocols.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams on safety lifecycle and V-model execution.
• Contribute to product safety concepts and architectures.
• Participate in hazard analyses, DFMEA, FMEDA, PFMEA, and common cause failure analyses.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians.
