Job summary

Mercy is seeking a Lead System Administrator – Storage to architect, implement, and operate Mercy's enterprise storage across on-premises and cloud environments. You will lead storage technology initiatives, ensure data availability, security, and scalability, and partner with infrastructure, applications, databases, security, and cloud teams.

The role requires 5–8 years in storage engineering with NetApp expertise, strong scripting, and experience with TB-scale data platforms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum 5–8 years of storage engineering experience focusing on NetApp technologies.
• In-depth knowledge of NetApp storage systems, including ONTAP.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement storage solutions to meet Mercy requirements.
• Configure and maintain storage environment.
• Monitor storage performance and tune for optimal operation.
• Manage backup and recovery using enterprise tools (NetApp SnapCenter, SVM-DR, SnapMirror, SnapLock, Commvault).
• Ensure security and compliance of the storage environment.
• Provide 24/7 storage issue support and troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with teams to integrate storage with applications and databases.
• Perform upgrades and patching of NetApp systems.
• Maintain detailed documentation of configurations and procedures.
• Automate with Ansible, Terraform, and/or PowerShell.

The Lead System Administrator – Storage role is responsible for the architecture, implementation, administration, and operational support of Mercy's enterprise storage infrastructure. This role serves as a technical leader for storage technologies, ensuring the availability, performance, security, and scalability of mission-critical data platforms across on-premises and cloud environments. This role also partners with infrastructure, application, database, security, and cloud teams to deliver reliable and resilient storage solutions that support the Mercy ministry.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and Implementation: Architect, design, and implement storage solutions to meet Mercy requirements.
• Configuration and Maintenance: Configure and maintain storage environment.
• Performance Monitoring: Monitor storage performance and conduct regular tuning to ensure optimal operation.
• Data Protection / Backup and Recovery: Manage and ensure the success of Data Protection tools backup and recovery processes using enterprise tools (NetApp SnapCenter, SVM-DR, SnapMirror, SnapLock, and Commvault)
• Security / Compliance: Work with teams to ensure that the storage environment is secure and complies with Mercy standards.
• Support and Troubleshooting: Provide 24/7 support for storage-related issues, troubleshoot problems, and implement solutions.
• Collaboration: Work with teams to integrate storage solutions with various applications and databases.
• Upgrades and Patching: Perform regular upgrades and patching of NetApp systems to maintain security and performance.
• Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of storage configurations, processes, and procedures.
• Automation: Experience with automation tools and scripting (Ansible, Terraform and/or Powershell).

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

• Experience:Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in storage engineering, with a focus on NetApp technologies.
• Education:Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.

Technical Skills:

• NetApp Expertise:In-depth knowledge of NetApp storage systems, including ONTAP
• Protocols:Proficiency in managing protocols such as NFS, iSCSI, and Fiber Channel.
• RAID and Storage Management:Experience with setting up and managing RAID groups, aggregates, volumes, quotas, and qtrees.
• Monitoring Tools:Familiarity with NetApp monitoring and performance tuning tools like Data Infrastructure Insights & Active IQ Unified Manager.
• Operating Systems:Experience with Windows, Unix, Linux, and VMware environments.
• Cloud Integration:Knowledge of integrating NetApp storage with cloud storage solutions, including Azure NetApp Files & Cloud Volumes ONTAP
• Hyperscale Experience: Experience in storage migrations to Azure or other hyperscalers.
• Internal cloud: Experience building PaaS or internal clouds
