Job summary

TMT IT Solutions is seeking a NetApp Storage Administrator to support and maintain enterprise storage for a New York client engagement. The role is hands-on and operations-focused, covering day-to-day ONTAP administration, capacity planning, replication, and backup operations for virtualized and database workloads.

The position is hybrid, onsite in NYC two to three days per week with remote work the rest; on-call rotations and occasional after-hours maintenance are expected.

Qualifications

• 5–8 years of hands-on enterprise storage administration experience.
• Strong NetApp ONTAP 9.x knowledge in clustered mode (SVMs, aggregates, FlexVol, dedup).
• Experience with SnapMirror, SnapVault, and Snapshot management.
• SAN/NAS fundamentals: FC, iSCSI, zoning, multipathing, NFS/CIFS.
• Experience supporting VMware vSphere and enterprise database storage.
• Active IQ Unified Manager / OnCommand monitoring and reporting.
• PowerShell or Python for storage automation.
• ITIL-aligned incident, problem, and change management processes.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Administer NetApp FAS/AFF storage systems running ONTAP 9.x.
• Provision SAN and NAS storage including LUNs, volumes, qtrees, and shares.
• Configure and manage SnapMirror, SnapVault, Snapshot policies, and data retention.
• Monitor capacity and performance with Active IQ Unified Manager and OnCommand; report trends.
• Troubleshoot storage performance and connectivity issues; root-cause analysis.
• Support storage for VMware vSphere and database environments; coordinate with platform teams.
• Execute migrations, refreshes, and decommissioning with cutover and rollback plans.
• Implement storage security and access controls (RBAC, export policies).
• Respond to incidents and changes in ITSM; participate in CAB.
• Automate recurring tasks with PowerShell, ONTAP REST API, or Ansible; maintain runbooks.
• Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation and after-hours maintenance windows.

Job description

We are seeking a NetApp Storage Administrator to support and maintain enterprise storage infrastructure for a client engagement in New York City delivered through our implementation partner, Mphasis. The role is hands-on and operations-focused: day-to-day administration of NetApp ONTAP systems, capacity and performance management, replication and backup operations, and support of storage provisioning for virtualized and database workloads.

This is a hybrid position — the selected candidate is expected onsite at the New York location approximately two to three days per week, with the remainder performed remotely. Participation in an on-call rotation and occasional after-hours maintenance windows is expected.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Administer and support NetApp FAS/AFF storage systems running ONTAP (9.x), including cluster health monitoring, node maintenance, and firmware/ONTAP upgrades.
• Provision and manage SAN and NAS storage — LUNs, volumes, qtrees, aggregates, SVMs, CIFS/SMB shares, and NFS exports — for application, database, and virtualization teams.
• Configure and manage SnapMirror and SnapVault replication, Snapshot policies, SnapRestore, and FlexClone to meet defined RPO/RTO and data-retention requirements.
• Monitor capacity, throughput, and latency using Active IQ Unified Manager and OnCommand tooling; produce trending and forecasting reports and recommend capacity expansions.
• Troubleshoot storage performance and connectivity issues across the stack — host multipathing, FC/iSCSI fabric, zoning, NFS/CIFS client behavior — and drive root cause analysis to closure.
• Support storage for VMware vSphere and database (Oracle/SQL Server) environments, including datastore provisioning, alignment, and coordination with the platform teams.
• Execute storage migrations, refreshes, and decommissioning activities with documented cutover and rollback plans.
• Implement and maintain storage security and access controls — role-based administration, export policies, share permissions, and encryption where applicable.
• Respond to incidents, service requests, and changes within defined SLAs using the client's ITSM platform (ServiceNow or equivalent); participate in change advisory reviews.
• Automate recurring administrative tasks using PowerShell, the ONTAP REST API, or Ansible, and maintain runbooks and as-built documentation.
• Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation and support scheduled after-hours maintenance windows.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 5–8 years of hands-on enterprise storage administration experience, with at least 4 years focused on NetApp.
• Strong working knowledge of NetApp ONTAP 9.x in clustered mode — SVMs, aggregates, FlexVol, storage efficiency features (deduplication, compression, compaction).
• Practical experience with SnapMirror, SnapVault, Snapshot management, and NetApp-based backup and recovery operations.
• Solid SAN and NAS fundamentals: FC and iSCSI protocols, zoning, multipathing, NFS and CIFS/SMB configuration and troubleshooting.
• Experience supporting storage for VMware vSphere and for enterprise database workloads.
• Working knowledge of Active IQ Unified Manager / OnCommand for monitoring, alerting, and capacity reporting.
• Scripting ability in PowerShell or Python for storage automation and reporting.
• Experience operating within ITIL-aligned incident, problem, and change management processes.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to work directly with client stakeholders in a hybrid onsite/remote model.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• NetApp certification — NCDA (NetApp Certified Data Administrator, ONTAP) or NCIE.
• Exposure to NetApp cloud and hybrid offerings — Cloud Volumes ONTAP, Azure NetApp Files, or FSx for NetApp ONTAP.
• Experience with StorageGRID or other object storage platforms (S3).
• Familiarity with Brocade or Cisco MDS fabric switch administration.
• Automation experience with Ansible or the ONTAP REST API.
• Prior experience in a large regulated enterprise environment (financial services, insurance, or healthcare).
• Experience working within a system-integrator or implementation-partner delivery model.
