Job summary

YMCA of Superior California is seeking a Lead Swim Instructor to oversee swim lessons for all ages, supervise instructors, and provide emergency coverage. You will promote a safe, welcoming, and disciplined environment in alignment with YMCA aquatics programs.

The role emphasizes leading onboarding, coordinating lesson delivery across branches, and maintaining accurate records. Certification requirements include First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor

Qualifications

• Minimum two years' aquatics teaching experience with children and adults.
• American Red Cross First Aid certification (or ability to obtain).
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification (or ability to obtain).
• YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Certification (or ability to obtain).
• Complete YMCA of Superior California Pre and Post-Employment Checklist.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Swim Lessons and Instructors on shift.
• Oversee lesson implementation and administrative duties.
• Maintain knowledge of all YMCA curricula and guide staff.
• Collaborate with other Lead Instructors to ensure consistent delivery.
• Lead onboarding and shadow shifts for new staff.
• Foster positive relationships and provide motivation and guidance.
• Address parent/participant questions in person, by phone, and email.
• Coordinate with risk management to ensure safety of the program.
• Know the Emergency Action Plan and safety procedures for the facility.
• Maintain attendance, progress reports, and payment confirmation records.
• Organize and store class equipment; report damaged items.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Meet other expectations as assigned by supervisor.
• Perform additional duties as needed.
