Job summary

Thomas & Hutton seeks an experienced Survey Crew Chief to lead field crews across a range of boundary and topographic projects. You’ll oversee staking, collect precise field notes, and ensure data quality while directing the team in dynamic, outdoor environments.

Your role includes coordinating with project managers, maintaining equipment, and delivering timely field updates to support project success and client satisfaction.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 3+ years of experience as a Survey Crew Chief preferred.
• Prior experience conducting boundary and topographic surveys required.
• Experience with ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, construction staking, and Carlson SurvCE preferred.
• Working knowledge of data collectors, robotic total stations, GPS equipment, and digital levels.
• Valid driver’s license required (this position requires driving).
• Strong math skills and attention to detail.
• Experience preparing detailed field notes and sketches.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and appropriately prioritize workflow.

Responsibilities

• Lead and direct a survey crew of two or more team members on a variety of field assignments.
• Perform and oversee boundary, topographic, construction staking, and other survey types.
• Operate survey equipment including robotic total stations, GPS equipment, data collectors, and levels.
• Ensure accuracy and quality of field data, notes, and sketches.
• Make field decisions and provide direction to crew members to ensure efficient project execution.
• Coordinate daily with project managers and office staff to meet project scope, schedule, and quality goals.
• Maintain and transport survey equipment safely and ensure proper operation in the field.
• Communicate project status and field updates regularly.
