Job summary

UNC Health Care seeks a Surgical Technologist to join the OR team at UNC Lenoir Health Care in Kinston, NC. You will assist surgeons and nurses, prepare sterile fields, and help maintain infection control throughout procedures.

Responsibilities include setting up back tables, maintaining counts, and ensuring sterile technique while supporting cost-effective, high-quality patient care. Licensure and CPR certification required or as applicable.

Qualifications

• Education requirements: High School graduate and completion of an approved operating room course for surgical technologists.
• Experience: Previous experience preferred but not required.
• Licensure/registration/certification: CPR Certification; certification from NSAA as Certified Surgical Assistant or National Board Surgical Technology as applicable.

Responsibilities

• Meets patients' surgical needs.
• Sets up surgical back table with instrumentation, supplies and drapes for procedures.
• Provides proper instrument, sponge and sharp counts as prescribed by policy.
• Maintains a sterile field and proper sterile technique.
• Attends in-service classes on new equipment and items in the OR.
• Cleans and decontaminates instrumentation for sterilization and operates washer/decontaminator.
• Prepares instruments for sterilization and maintains sterilization records.
• Maintains sterile area and supplies and monitors stock and usage.
