Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Prepares the operating room and surgical field with instruments, equipment, and supplies for scheduled procedures.
• Assists the surgical team during procedures by passing instruments in a timely, efficient manner.
• Applies aseptic technique, universal precautions, and sterilization methods to ensure infection control and patient safety.
• Documents sponge, needle, and instrument counts with the circulating nurse.
• Retains and labels specimens for pathology and ensures documentation.
• Performs instrument cleaning and transports items for decontamination and sterilization.
• Assists with room turnover and restocking of instruments and supplies.
• Supports updating physician preference cards and maintains equipment readiness.
• Mentors and trains surgical technicians and other team members.
