Job summary

Iowa Army National Guard in Boone, IA seeks a Surface Maintenance Mechanic (WG-5801-10) to troubleshoot, repair, and overhaul a wide range of heavy equipment, engines, and transmissions in field or shop settings.

You will follow technical manuals, assist in training lower graded mechanics, and perform readiness inspections while adhering to safety and regulatory requirements. This is a Title 32 excepted service position restricted to military members.

Qualifications

• Experience using common hand tools for repairs under supervision.
• Ability to diagnose and repair a variety of combat and equipment systems.
• Knowledge of electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems related to mechanical devices.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots, repairs and overhauls major systems on heavy equipment and vehicles.
• Performs inspections and ensures equipment is properly serviced and safe to operate.
• Provides guidance to lower grade mechanics and assists in field maintenance tasks.
