Job description

What You Will Do

Process Equipment Maintenance & Decontamination Services (PMDS) provides a comprehensive and integrated maintenance program supporting plutonium process equipment for DOE Nuclear facilities. Glovebox and programmatic process equipment maintenance activities and decontamination are performed by PMDS as directed by the owning/operating groups in compliance with Conduct of Engineering (CoE), Conduct of Operations (CoO), and Conduct of Maintenance (CoM) policies.

The MM1 will serve as the lead supervisor for the Programmatic Equipment Maintenance & Gloveboxes team. The selected candidate will report to the Manufacturing Manager 3 (MM3). Responsibilities include overseeing daily operations, providing supervision and guidance on the floor, developing and implementing improved, customer-focused processes and procedures, and mentoring team members.

Key responsibilities include coordinating administrative functions to support operational efficiency, planning, prioritizing, and scheduling team assignments. Ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, security, and operational policies is essential. The MM1 will conduct pre-job briefings, post-job reviews, perform work scope walk-downs, and assist in developing work authorization documents. Additionally, the role involves managing incident investigations, ensuring corrective actions are implemented, and integrating safety and security into all tasks, including stopping work if unsafe or security-compromising conditions arise.

Shiftwork

Position requires 24/7 coverage with a shift/weekend schedule, including swing (4:00 p.m. to 12 midnight, 12.0%) and graveyard (12 midnight to 8:00 a.m, 15.0%) shifts. Shift assignments are at the discretion of management and may include shift differentials.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Supervisory experience in a multidisciplinary technical environment.
  • Experience with work planning, including POD and POW entries, late adds, and cancellations.
  • Experience in manufacturing and nuclear high-hazard facilities, including safety authorization basis and Conduct of Operations.
  • Knowledge of nuclear safety and occupational radiation protection regulations.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain necessary qualifications and certifications, including FMH, GBO, Programmatic Maintenance Worker, HRP, and DOE Q clearance.
  • Ability to perform work requiring respiratory protection and Level II PPE.

Education and experience requirements include a Bachelor's degree with 1 year of related experience or equivalent, or a High School Diploma with 3 years of nuclear experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Active DOE Q clearance, HRP, glovebox, and FMH qualifications.
  • Experience in PF-4 maintenance, project management, and safety policies.
  • Knowledge of ISM principles.

Physical and Work Environment: Ability to perform physical tasks, work near radiation sources, machinery, and under various safety conditions. Work involves irregular hours, off-shift schedules, and potential travel. Personal protective equipment is required.

Location and Schedule: The position is onsite in Los Alamos, NM, with a 2-year position commitment. The work schedule includes shift/weekend rotations with possible shift differentials.
