Job summary

HDR is seeking a Substation Structural Engineer to join the Power Delivery Team in the Charlotte, Raleigh, or Fort Mill area. You will lead structural design and foundation tasks for high‑voltage substations across multiple projects, collaborating with engineers to deliver safe, resilient infrastructure.

You will mentor junior staff, work in a multidisciplinary environment, and support QMS processes while traveling as needed to support project teams.

Qualifications

• PE license recognized by the licensing board.
• Minimum of structural engineering experience in substations or HV projects.
• Experience with design software: AutoCAD, RISA, Staad, RAM, ETABS, SAFE or similar.
• Industry standards knowledge: NEC, IEEE, AISC, ASCE-7, etc.
• Experience in consulting or engineering firms preferred.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead structural design tasks for substation structures and foundations.
• Prepare calculations, drawings, and fabrication support submittals.
• Coordinate with multi-discipline teams and reviewers.
• Develop and maintain design standards and QA/QMS reviews.
• Mentor EITs or Designers and manage multiple projects.
