Job summary

Race Rock Group seeks a Senior Substation Steel Engineer to lead design and analysis of high-voltage substation steel structures within the Engineered Structures Division. Reporting to the Vice President of Engineering, you will shape engineering standards and own complex steel design.

This role targets a licensed PE with 8+ years of experience and a track record in sealed deliverables, standards, and cross‑functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis.
• Active Texas PE license, or ability to obtain within six months.
• 8+ years of high-voltage substation steel design experience.
• Expert knowledge of ASCE 113, AISC 360, ASCE 7, and ASCE 48.
• Proficiency with STAAD.Pro, RISA-3D, and RISAConnection.
• Experience with structural steel detailing, bolted and welded connection design, and fabrication-drawing interpretation.
• Demonstrated ability to develop engineering standards and workflows.
• Strong organizational, time-management, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and analysis of substation steel structures up to 500 kV.
• Produce and check calculations, drawings, and sealed deliverables.
• Develop design standards, methodologies, tools, and best practices.
• Deliver projects on schedule, quality, and budget targets.
• Prepare and support proposal packages, scopes, and estimates.
• Collaborate with project management, sales, drafting, and manufacturing teams.
