Job summary

ARCO is seeking a Substation Engineer in Downers Grove, IL to lead electrical substation design for design/build projects. The role involves guiding teams, delivering diagrams, and conducting electrical studies. You will interact with procurement, construction, and client teams to ensure compliant, timely project execution.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in substation design, experience with high-voltage systems, and proficiency in AutoCAD/MicroStation and ETAP/SKM. Travel to sites is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of substation design and engineering experience.
• Strong knowledge of high-voltage equipment, bus systems, grounding, and control/relay systems.
• Ability to read, interpret, and produce single-line, three-line, schematics, and layouts.
• Experience with technical specifications, BOMs, and vendor data reviews.
• Proficiency with design tools such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, ETAP, SKM, Mathcad.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage project teams in design and execution of electrical substation projects.
• Develop and review engineering deliverables including diagrams, bus layouts, and grounding systems.
• Perform electrical studies such as short circuit, voltage drop, and grounding analyses.
• Prepare specifications, data sheets, and submittals for major substation equipment.
• Coordinate with procurement on vendor submittals and RFIs.
• Interface with construction teams for field issues and changes.
• Travel to substations and project sites as required.
