Job summary

CFD Research Corporation is seeking a senior structural engineer to lead a growing FEA-focused team in Huntsville, AL. The role involves overseeing static, dynamic, modal, fatigue, and crack propagation analyses, with emphasis on turbomachinery and rotordynamics.

You will direct work with PMs and SMEs and brief customers on results. Applicants should have 10+ years of FEA experience, strong Abaqus/LS-DYNA proficiency, and a track record of mentoring engineers.

Qualifications

• US Citizenship and eligibility to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 10+ years hands-on experience with FEA.
• 3+ years experience in team leadership, project leadership or technical mentorship.
• Deep understanding of linear static, dynamic, modal, fatigue, and buckling analyses.
• Proficiency in Abaqus and LS-DYNA.
• Demonstrated ability to perform classical hand calculations to validate FEA models.
• Knowledge of thermal–structural coupling.
• Experience reviewing structural test data to calibrate and validate finite element models.

Responsibilities

• Oversee FEA-based structural work and lead the structural analysis team.
• Scope, plan, and direct work with the program manager and group SMEs.
• Ensure quality assurance on all work products and brief results to customers.
• Interface with Prototype, Test and Evaluation engineers at the Hollywood, AL Center.
• Mentor, train, and develop team members through regular reviews and career discussions.
