Job summary

The Chateau de Mores State Historic Site in Medora, North Dakota, invites applications for a full-time, year-round position focused on store operations and guest services. Located in a rural historic site, staff help maintain displays, manage the gift shop, and support interpretive programs.

  • Welcome and serve guests with excellent customer service at the Interpretive Center.
  • Perform light maintenance tasks such as cleaning, dusting, trash, and tidying work areas.
  • Assist with events, outreach, and site interpretation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Summary Of Work

Located in Medora, North Dakota, named one of the most beautiful small towns in America by Travel+Leisure, the Chateau de Mores State Historic Site interprets the ambitions of the Marquis de Mores in Dakota Territory. Our interpretive center serves guests as a place to learn the story of the Marquis and his family, share local and regional travel information, and enjoy unencumbered views of Historic Medora. Guests step back in time when visiting the original Chateau and outbuildings, they can stroll the wooded path through some of the Marquis' ranch holdings, and picnic in the shadows of his abattoir ruins.

Job Duration

This is a full-time, year-round temporary position working 40 hours per week. The position does not have a predetermined end date and is expected to continue based on operational needs and available funding. The position is eligible for health insurance coverage under the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

Responsibilities
  • Upkeep and maintain store inventory, shelving, and store displays.
  • Maintain and operate store point of sale system, including register and money transactions, and perform administrative duties.
  • Work with Site Supervisor to train seasonal staff on proper store operations.
  • Welcome and serve guests and maintain the Interpretive Center with excellent customer service.
  • Perform light maintenance tasks which might included cleaning of store, dusting, emptying trash receptacles, keeping store and work areas tidy, etc.
  • Assist with events, outreach, and site interpretation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to communicate with groups and individuals of diverse ages, interests, and perspectives, using appropriate language and hands-on skills.
  • Ability to learn site history.
  • Ability to work flexible work hours and weekends.
  • Ability to accurately complete required forms such as timesheets, till counts, reservations, etc.
  • Self-motivated.

Location: The Chateau de Mores State Historic Site is located in a rural area in Medora, ND. Employees are responsible for securing their own housing. The position is based on-site and requires reliable transportation to and from the work location.
