Job Summary and Qualifications

As the Sterile Processing Technician Lead, you will receive, decontaminate, test, assemble, and sterilize various reusable instruments and trays. You will also store supplies and instruments, operate cleaning and sterilization equipment, and assist the Sterile Processing Supervisor with quality control and documentation.

  • You will retrieve equipment and instrumentation from operating rooms and perform decontamination and performance testing
  • You will notify the appropriate unit supervisor of malfunctioning equipment or defective supplies
  • You will assemble surgical trays
  • You will prepare and file appropriate documentation for each sterilizer load
  • You will properly load, operate, and clean all sterilizers and equipment using biologicals and chemical control tests
  • You will examine all received supplies for expiration dates, package integrity, or visible damage
  • You will rotate and store stock and report any shortages to the Sterile Processing Supervisor
  • You will ensure general cleaning of department surface areas, racks, shelves, storage cabinets, and all storage areas
What qualifications you will need:

Experience

  • 1 year of previous experience working with instrumentation and infection control procedures
  • 3 years of previous experience working with instrumentation and infection control procedures – preferred

Education

  • High school graduate/GED
  • Completion of an accredited sterile processing program within 6 months of hire, OR 5 years of experience working at St. David’s Medical Center in Sterile Processing
  • 1 year of college in a related field – preferred

Licenses and Certifications

  • Sterile Processing Technician certification from International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSSM) OR Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) required within 6 months of hire
  • Certification in Healthcare Leadership (CHL) through International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) – preferred
