Job summary

U.S. Department of Agriculture in Asheville, NC seeks a Station Engineer to lead the engineering program across a Research Station. You will provide policy direction and coordinate a broad range of engineering and architectural activities, working with universities and Federal/state agencies.

Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt.
  • Subject to satisfactory background investigation and fingerprint check.
  • Direct deposit to financial institution required for federal employees.
  • Must pass E-Verify employment verification check.
  • One-year supervisory/managerial probationary period.
  • New USDA supervisors must complete required supervisory training before end of probationary period.

Responsibilities

  • Provide program management, expert consultation and support to planning, design, construction, and maintenance of facilities.
  • Coordinate efforts across all programs and with cooperating organizations including universities and Federal and State agencies.
  • Responsible for the maintenance, repair, and safe and efficient operation of all Station facilities.
  • Provide engineering expertise to ensure compliance with regulations for water, sewage, and solid waste systems.
  • Manage the budget for multiple work plans and projects.
  • Coordinate planning, construction, and maintenance of transportation and other facility services at various research areas.
  • Serve as a Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) ensuring adherence to plans and specifications.
  • Perform supervisory duties at least 25% of the time.
