Job summary

Indianapolis Public Schools is seeking a Lead Special Education Generalist to organize and manage supports, professional development, and services across IPS. The role provides direct instructional and behavioral support to assigned schools to improve IPS students' achievement, with responsibilities across USS operations and district priorities.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years as a special educator; at least 1 year as an instructional coach.
• Last evaluation rating: Effective; preference for Highly Effective specialists.
• Knowledge of IDEA and Article 7; federal/state special education laws.
• Knowledge of Indiana and IPS special education policies and programs.
• Creative in developing alternatives to meet district, department, school, and student needs.
• Proven ability to build strong, diverse working relationships.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct support for teachers, coaches, and administrators per Learning Community Director guidance.
• Provides leadership to ensure school special education initiatives are student-focused and aligned with IPS USS vision.
• Demonstrates thorough knowledge of special education issues related to services for student success.
• Coordinates onboarding of new USS Coaches and Specialists.
• Monitors caseloads and recommends school assignments based on district needs.
• Provides input for IEPs, behavior plans, and case conferences; supports I-TEAM processes.
• Mentors team members in schedule management and I-TEAM processes.
• Communicates with school staff, parents, and guardians to address concerns.
