Job summary

K2 Space in Los Angeles is seeking a Principal Electrical Manufacturing Engineer to scale production of high-power satellite systems. You will design manufacturability, build prototypes, and drive transition to full production for complex PCBA assemblies.

You will lead DFX with design teams, develop new manufacturing methods, set standards, and mentor engineers while partnering with advanced manufacturing to push automation and MES solutions in a fast-paced, growth-stage environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, electronics, mechanical, aerospace, or other relevant engineering.
• 10+ years in high-volume, rapid production with engineering leadership.
• Strong IPC standards knowledge (IPC-A-610, IPC-A-600, J-STD-001).
• Experience setting up production floors for first article builds and high-rate manufacturing.
• DFX guidance across PCBs, PCBAs, and machined components.
• GD&T and mechanical drawings proficiency.
• Familiar with conformal coating and NASA-STD-8739.1.
• Ability to identify and mitigate manufacturing risk across programs.

Responsibilities

• Lead DFX reviews with design engineers for PCBs, PCBAs, machined components, and assemblies.
• Develop manufacturing systems for spacecraft electronics, including PCBA integration, wire harnessing, and electromechanical sub-assemblies.
• Set manufacturing policy, standards, and best practices for Manufacturing Engineering, proactively identifying and mitigating risks.
• Plan manufacturing strategy, tooling, and capacity investments for future designs and roadmaps.
• Pilot new assembly methodologies and automation technologies, using data-driven analysis to optimize current production.
• Create custom tools, automation, and MES software to support manufacturing technologies.
• Demonstrate advanced manufacturing techniques on prototypes with design teams to improve manufacturability.
• Develop subassembly build flow and iterate to achieve efficient production tempo.
