Job summary

Amazon in Kirkland, WA is seeking a Lead Space Simulation Technician for the 2nd shift to drive continuous improvement and lead a high-velocity production team focused on environmental testing of space hardware.

The role requires hands-on lab work, strong adherence to safety, and the ability to train staff while coordinating with engineering groups to move from development to production.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years in high traceability manufacturing (Aerospace / Medical, etc.).
  • 3+ years hands-on work in test lab environment, using basic hand tools.
  • 3+ years experience in a fast-paced production environment with Flight Hardware.
  • Minimum 3 years of environmental test experience (Vibration, Shock, Acoustic, Thermal or Thermal Vacuum).

Responsibilities

  • Drive and develop departmental continuous improvement initiatives and support implementation.
  • Operate environmental test chambers and lead process work ensuring standards and procedures.
  • Assemble tooling and assist with equipment maintenance.
  • Lead daily team meetings, end-of-shift reporting, and minimize production interruptions.
  • Develop training plans and implement training programs within the department.
  • Drive safety standards and maintain operations protocol and team compliance.

Key job responsibilities
  • Driving and developing departmental continuous improvement initiatives and support implementation.
  • Operation of environmental test chambers (Thermal cycling, vacuum, HALT/HASS.). Lead process work and review output for quality and adherence to standards and procedures
  • Assemble tooling and assist with equipment maintenance.
  • Lead daily team meeting facilitation, end-of-shift reporting, and coordinating efforts to minimize production interruptions.
  • Support new-hire training programs within your department and contribute to development and modification of training programs. You develop training plans for your team and are responsible for implementing training programs within your department.
  • Drive safety standards and operations protocol while ensuring team compliance.
Additional Requirements
  • 4/10s Shift: Sun-Wed 4 pm - 2:30 am
  • Standing for long periods of time, climbing up and down ladders, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, and stretching may be required to perform the functions of this position
  • Willing to move between locations depending on program needs
  • Able to lift up to 25lbs. unassisted
  • Candidates must be 18 years or older with the ability to understand and adhere to all job requirements and safety guidelines.

A day in the life

The Lead Space Simulation Technician will identify process improvements to improve build efficiency. You will work closely with multiple engineering teams on both early hardware development testing and setting the stage for later production hardware manufacturing processes. The successful candidate thrives in a fast paced, start-up like environment and is able to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills and commitment to quality to positively impact team metrics and organization goals. To be successful you need to be highly motivated and detail oriented while showing the highest standards of execution.

About the team

We are a group of Technicians with well over 20 years of diverse skills and experience. Each team member brings in willingness to train and positive team energy. Some tasks you may be an individual contributor, but may also work in a group environment to achieve organizational goals. This group of Technicians thrived in success by working as a team. We are currently in research and development but moving towards production environment.

Basic Qualifications
  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years relevant high traceability manufacturing experience (Aerospace / Medical, etc.)
  • 3+ years of hands-on work in test lab environment, using basic hand tools
  • 3+ years experience in a fast-paced production environment with Flight Hardware
  • Minimum 3 years of environmental test experience performing at least one of the following: Vibration Testing Shock Testing Acoustic Testing Thermal Testing Thermal Vacuum Testing
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years prior leadership experience, to include leading teams, projects or people
  • Experience bringing teams and processes from development to production
  • Able to read, interpret and work from engineering documentation and/ or drawings
  • Experience working with FOD, ESD sensitive hardware and clean room requirements
  • Ability to rapidly change roles/responsibilities while working in a high-paced, challenging work environment
  • Ability to prioritize work in a complex, fast-paced environment
  • Proper use and understanding of DMM, torque wrenches, calipers, and other type of measuring devices.
  • Experience installing instrumentation such as accelerometers, thermocouples etc.
  • Understanding of 5S and lean principles.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
