Job summary

Blue Origin seeks an experienced mission operations engineer to lead and grow the In-Space Systems team's real-time spacecraft operations capabilities. You will guide the development of procedures, telemetry displays, and automation to improve efficiency and reliability across space and ground systems.

You will mentor early career engineers, coordinate staffing for mission events, and provide leadership during launch and early orbit phases from multiple mission control sites.

Qualifications

• BS in Aerospace, Computer Science, Systems or related field.
• 3+ years of experience managing technical teams.
• 10+ years of proven experience in spacecraft operations development and execution, including real-time support for on-orbit operations in a flight director or comparable leadership role.
• Experience with development of spacecraft operations products, including procedures, telemetry displays, scripts, and other technical documents.
• Experience with configuration and product data management.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including ability to make persuasive presentations to external customers at gated milestone reviews.
• Ability to earn trust, build positive professional relationships, and collaborate with individuals of various backgrounds to achieve mission success.

Responsibilities

• Develop mission plans, operations concepts, tools, and processes for real-time spacecraft and ground system operation.
• Lead small teams in developing and implementing operations procedures, executables, telemetry displays, and technical documents.
• Ensure deliverables meet quality standards, with emphasis on reuse and backward compatibility.
• Test and validate ops products in hardware and software simulation environments spanning space and ground domains.
• Drive efficiency and reliability through automation and AI/ML applications.
• Support systems engineering to develop spacecraft concepts of operations for end users.
• Provide progress tracking and basis-of-estimates for new business pursuits.
• Create test procedures to validate end-to-end system capabilities.
• Analyze ground station selection for optimal communications availability.
• Coordinate staffing for mission operations events and training for console personnel.
• Support mission readiness activities including rehearsals, timelines, and post-launch tests.
• Provide real-time leadership during launch and early orbit phase from mission control facilities.
