Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Responsible Engineer to lead the Solar Panels for spacecraft within the Lunar Permanence unit. You will drive concept through flight hardware, collaborating with Power Gen & Energy Storage and other vehicle teams to integrate panels with subsystems.

The role requires hands-on, multi-disciplinary leadership, strong communication, and a track record in space-grade solar technology development for reliable space missions.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Mechanical, Electrical, Material Science, Physics, Aerospace Engineering or related areas of study.
  • 5+ years of direct experience in solar panel development (or similarly constructed products).
  • 3+ years in space applications desired.
  • Experience across the full product development lifecycle: concept definition, architecture, requirements, development, verification, and release.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, specifying, procuring, and testing of space grade panels and adhesives.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver space-qualified solar panel and backing structure flight hardware.
  • Serve as technical lead, coordinating cross-discipline engineers (mechanical, electrical, systems, M&P).
  • Drive new product development from requirements through production readiness for modular, scalable products.
  • Lead internal design reviews and participate in supplier/customer reviews; support DFx.
  • Communicate development status, risks, and challenges to management.
  • Analyze, track, and report key performance metrics against vehicle requirements.
  • Support component-level test programs including characterization, risk reduction, and qualification.
