Job summary

Voya is seeking a Lead Engineer in New Jersey who will set technical direction, lead by example, and collaborate with engineers, product leaders, and partners to deliver high-quality solutions that meet business and customer needs.

You'll stay hands-on while mentoring engineers, driving engineering excellence, and influencing architectural decisions to scale and improve performance, security, and reliability across systems.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with leadership experience.
• Experience designing scalable applications and distributed systems.
• Hands-on cloud experience with Azure or AWS.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of scalable, high-quality technology solutions across applications and platforms.
• Define and promote engineering best practices in coding, testing, performance, security, reliability, and maintainability.
• Influence architecture balancing immediate business needs with long-term scalability.
• Collaborate with product managers, engineers, architects to translate requirements into technical solutions.
• Conduct code reviews and mentoring to strengthen engineering capabilities.
• Drive performance, reliability, and operational excellence across applications and services.
• Proactively identify and resolve architectural challenges.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and development practices.
• Promote strong engineering standards around security, quality, scalability, resilience.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and engineering approaches.
• Participate in agile ceremonies and roadmap planning.
• Monitor and troubleshoot production issues.
