Job summary

M&T Bank in Buffalo, NY is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to drive modernization of our Enterprise Entitlements platform, delivering scalable, cloud-native identity, access, and authorization solutions. The role requires leadership in architecture and hands-on development across digital banking systems.

You will lead design and development with Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and modern UI frameworks, while guiding cloud-native practices using Kubernetes, Docker, Istio, and Envoy.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree with 7+ years of related work, or Bachelor’s with 5+ years, or equivalent experience.
• Strong Java and Spring Boot expertise.
• Experience building RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Angular or modern front-end development experience.
• Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud-native development.
• CI/CD pipeline implementation experience.
• Solid understanding of security, authentication, and authorization concepts.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and support enterprise-grade applications using Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and modern UI frameworks.
• Lead cloud-native solutions leveraging Kubernetes, containers, and microservices.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines with automated testing and deployment.
• Define API and integration strategies across enterprise platforms.
• Partner with architects and security teams on authorization and policy-driven access controls.
• Contribute to service mesh architectures using Istio and Envoy.
• Author and maintain policy definitions using Rego/OPA (preferred).
• Mentor engineers and promote engineering excellence and operational best practices.
