Job summary

Black River Systems Company is seeking a Lead Software Engineer based in Utica, NY, to drive full lifecycle software development for high-performance systems. The role requires collaboration with researchers and engineers across design, development, testing, and delivery efforts.

The ideal candidate brings 5+ years in software development, strong C/C++ and Java (and Python desirable), and effective communication skills. Onsite work in Utica/Syracuse with travel to customer sites is expected.

Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science or related field; a Master’s degree is a plus.
• Minimum 5 years of software development experience.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills; able to document work clearly.

Salary Range: $90,000 – $120,000 Annually

Black River Systems Company is an established, research-oriented, employee-owned engineering firm headquartered in Utica, NY. We specialize in advanced research and development for the U.S. Department of Defense, Intelligence Community, and commercial customers. We are looking for a Lead Software Engineer based out of our Utica, NY office. The candidate should have a strong background in software development. A successful candidate will work on projects that involve one or more engineering functions, i.e., research, design, development, testing, and evaluation. Technical areas include, but are not limited to, software development for high-performance computers, modeling and simulation of sensor systems, software tool development, visualization of data and algorithms, and real-time embedded processing. This position will require involvement in the full life cycle of software development, including delivery and documentation. The candidate is required to be able to work both independently and collaboratively on a project team.

Position Requirements:

• Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Mathematics, Computer Engineering or a related field; a Master’s degree is a plus.
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in software development.
• Solid communication, documentation, and collaborative/teamwork skills.
• Applied knowledge in object-oriented design and multi-threaded programming is desirable.
• Engineering skills in one or more languages widely used for software development. C/C++ and Java are preferred, however either is acceptable. Experience with Python is also desirable.
• Ability to work onsite in Syracuse or Utica, NY, with frequent support at AFRL Rome, NY.
• Willingness to travel to customer locations.
• Active TS/SCI Department of Defense Security Clearance is preferred. Otherwise, must have U.S. Citizenship and be eligible for a Department of Defense security clearance.
