Job summary

Amazon seeks a Software Development Engineer III to lead the design and delivery of large-scale services in Seattle. You will own architectural direction, drive cross-team collaboration, and produce high-quality, secure code.

You will mentor engineers, promote operational excellence with telemetry and runbooks, and balance short-term needs with long-term maintainability, applying best practices and thoughtful judgment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 5+ years of programming with at least one language.
• 5+ years of leading design or architecture of new and existing systems.
• Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of multi-engineer software projects, owning your team's architectural direction and ensuring systems are well-designed, performant, and secure.
• Collaborate with peers on related teams to define technology strategy for problems where the business direction is understood but the technical approach is not.
• Write exemplary code that demonstrates best practices in organization, clarity, error handling, and documentation.
• Mentor and coach engineers on your team and beyond, providing technical guidance and career development support.
• Design and maintain operational excellence for your systems, including alarms, telemetry, runbooks, and retrospective processes.
