Job summary

Vail Resorts in the United States is hiring for winter 2026/27 for Ski Patrol roles. The team promotes safety and guest experiences on the mountain, requiring calmness under crisis and ability to respond to incidents.

Starting wage is $24.00/hr to $30.61/hr for winter seasonal positions; full-time shifts; housing available. Must be 18+, EMT or OEC certification, valid driver’s license, and at least 5 years patrol experience. English fluency and flexible schedule required.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of patrol experience required; supervisory experience preferred.
  • Must be able to communicate fluently in English.

Responsibilities

  • Promote safety and security of staff and guests on the mountain.
  • Maintain safety of trails and respond to incidents during operations.
  • Coordinate emergency and hazard response plans (evacuations, search and rescue).
  • Assist injured guests/workers and provide transport as needed.
  • Mentor and support patrol members; assist leadership with daily operations.

Job Summary

Responsible for promoting the safety and security of staff and guests on the mountain, Ski Patrol are alert and dependable professionals focused on promoting safety with the ability to remain calm in a crisis when incidents arise.

Job Specifications

Job Responsibilities
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of and enforce all applicable laws, policies, and procedures to ensure the safety of all guests
  • Maintain the safety and operation of trails through preventative procedures such as avalanche mitigation, tree and limb removal, and end of day sweeps of the mountain to ensure all guests have exited.
  • Establish, coordinate, and execute emergency and hazard response plans such as evacuations and search and rescue protocols
  • Assist and provide care to injured guests and workers including transport via toboggan or air lift support when necessary.
  • Facilitate training, mentorship, and support of patrol members
  • Assist patrol leadership in daily operations including but not limited to organizing and assigning responsibilities, incident investigations, and hiring activities
  • Manage, oversee and assign responsibilities to volunteers
  • Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) certification required
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • 5 years of previous patrol experience required; supervisory experience preferred
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Must be able to communicate fluently in English
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, holidays, and weekends
  • Ability to use all senses
  • Ability to lift and transport 50 to 100 pounds with or without assistance
  • Ability to frequently walk/stand, sit/climb, balance, stoop/kneel, crouch/crawl, and reach throughout the course of work in all climate conditions and at high elevations

The expected pay range is $24.00/hr - $30.61/hr. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
