Job summary

Smithfield Foods, Inc. is seeking a forklift operator to move, stack, and transport product and materials in a fast-paced warehouse environment. You will perform pre-operational inspections and ensure safety protocols are followed.

You will prepare shipment records, verify quantities, and work with a team to meet daily shipping plans. Must complete GMP/HACCP training, wear PPE, and maintain a clean, organized workspace in a cold storage setting.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and related experience or training; required.
  • Must complete all courses in necessary training schedule within 90 days of assuming position; during that time employee may perform duties under supervision of trained operator.
  • Must complete Orientation, GMP and HACCP training.
  • Must complete PPE requirements: Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, and Steel Toe Shoes.

Responsibilities

  • Train, motivate, and lead within area of responsibility.
  • Create and follow shipping plans with supervisors; relay/execute plan with team.
  • Inspect trailers prior to loading for sanitary conditions and proper refrigeration operation.
  • Take temperature readings and read fuel settings on refrigerated trailers.
  • Operate forklifts: pre-operational inspection and operation; pallet jacks as needed.
  • Stock and pull product from warehouse racking.
  • Pick and pack outgoing shipments; verify quantities and product numbers.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment; follow food safety color code system.
  • Collaborate effectively with others in a fast-paced setting.

Your Opportunity Drives electric powered industrial truck equipped with lifting devices such as forklift to push, pull, lift, stack, tier, or remove products, equipment, or materials.

Prepare records of shipments and bills of lading for outbound trucks. Prepares records of receipt of incoming material, chemicals, and equipment and update database. Responsible for accuracy of shipping documents and computer data and verifying receiving receipts with open PO’s.

Core Responsibilities
  • Accountable for training, motivating, and leading within area of responsibility.
  • Creating purchase orders for all inedible shipments.
  • Meet with supervisors dialing, receive shipping plan/instruction, relay/execute plan with team.
  • Inspection of trailers prior to loading to confirm sanitary conditions and proper refrigeration equipment operation.
  • Take temperature readings and read fuel settings on refrigerated trailers.
  • Forklifts: Pre-operational inspection, operation.
  • Pallet jacks: operation of manual and electric.
  • Stocking and pulling product from warehouse racking.
  • Pick and pack outgoing shipments.
  • Ability to quickly locate merchandise for distribution or placement within the warehouse.
  • Verify incoming shipment quantities, product number, etc.
  • Understand all shipping terms used in domestic shipping transactions.
  • Ability to break apart the day to cover several tasks.
  • Sufficient strength and stamina to spend a lot of time on their feet and lift packages from below waist height to above shoulder height.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Follow our color code system in regard to food safety.
  • Other duties as directed by Supervisor.
  • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
  • Food safety and quality are the responsibility of every individual working at Kansas City Sausage Company, you are expected to: - Follow USDA/SQF and GMP guidelines. Stay focused on quality while maintaining speed. Be able to work in temperature extremes from 38 to -17 degrees. Ability to stand 8+ hours per day. CDL License preferred. $2.00/hr increase if licensed.
Qualifications

  • Must complete Orientation prior to first day of assignment.
  • Must complete Employee Awareness Safety P.P.E. Requirements: Proper Attire, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, and Steel Toe Shoes.
  • Must complete Hearing Conservation, Hazard Risk Analysis, Fire Safety, Machine Guarding, Emergency Preparedness, Bloodborne Pathogens, Electrical Safety, Confined Space, Ladder/Knife Safety and Fall Protection training.
  • Must be P.I.T. Trained – Must complete initial safety procedures.
  • Must complete Ergonomics, and L.O.T.O./Machine Specific training.
