Job summary

Smithfield Foods is seeking a Farm Maintenance Technician to join our operations in Missouri. You will follow biosecurity policies, support animal welfare, and perform preventive maintenance on sewer systems and related equipment.

The role requires a CDL with tanker endorsement or willingness to obtain one, a high school diploma or GED, ability to lift 70 lbs, and availability for an average 45-hour week, including weekends and holidays. On-call emergency work is required.

Farm Maintenance Technician
Core Responsibilities
  • Learn, understand, and implement all policies and procedures that relate to Biosecurity.
  • Follow the Company’s animal welfare policies and procedures.
  • Follow the safety requirement of the Smithfield Injury Prevention System (SIPS).
  • Responsible for participation in the EMS and being in compliance with all laws and procedures.
  • Report all environmental issues immediately to their supervisor.
  • Read and understand the company’s emergency notification process and how it applies to their specific worksite.
  • Unplugging, cleaning, and PMing sewer discharge lines.
  • Using sewer camera to identify plugs in lines.
  • Complete preventive maintenance on sewer equipment.
  • Candidate will work in all weather conditions.
  • Use hand tools as needed.
  • Required to be on 24‑hour a day emergency call out, including weekends and holidays.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

  • Class A CDL with tanker endorsement or willingness to attain.

  • Candidates must be able to lift 70lbs unassisted with full range of motion.
  • Must have valid state driver’s license with acceptable driving record per company policy.
  • Must be able to work an average 45 hour week with an average 9 hour workday, which can vary frequently.
  • Weekend, evening, and holiday work required as needed.
  • Must be on call to work in emergency situations to include but not limited to barn plugs or personnel shortages.

  • Must be able to climb over, under, and around penning when needed.
  • Walk in or around uneven terrain.
  • Must be able to walk and stand on concrete for 9 to 12 hours per day, walking down narrow alleys and in and out of narrow penning and inside pens with animals.
  • Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs on a limited basis.
  • Must be able to occasionally work in situations two feet above the floor in a leaned‑over or squatted position.
  • Must be able to operate a high‑pressure washing system.
  • Must be able to tolerate blood, animal dander, manure, dust, odors, and frequently noisy conditions.
